Here’s a fantastic mug that’s transfer printed in black with an interesting optical illusion. The image is a young miss when it’s viewed upright, but it becomes an old woman when it’s viewed upside down. Look at the photos to see the transformation. Each image is titled underneath. This mug was created in the third quarter of the eighteenth century, likely in Staffordshire. It was thrown on the potter's wheel by hand, with a shape that flares toward the bottom. The handle is molded. Condition is superb, with no damage at all and only very light crazing to the slightly greenish glaze. There are some minor manufacturing flaws on the surface—all original to the piece. It stands a little over three and a half inches high.
