This hand-painted pattern is one of Worcester’s earliest ones, imitating the design of Oriental porcelain on a four-lobed shape with shell-form handles and an artichoke finial, and painted in dark blue with the Rubber Tree Plant pattern of fruiting vines, fleshy leaves and flying insects. It’s doubly impressive in this large size—each basket is eleven inches long and four inches high! They make quite a statement together. Fortunately, they are in wonderful condition, completely intact except for the replacement of one half of one of the florets that are applied at the junctions on the outside. Hardly a scratch on either of them.
