Here is a rare and splendid small oriental bowl with delicately graceful lotus-form sides decorated with paintings of pond flowers and leaves in copper red and cobalt blue. The outside is painted with red lines and blue veins. It is five and one-eighth inches across. No damage and no repairs. The firing probably was slightly faulty on this piece. There are small pits in the glaze, and the red color looks as if it failed to mature consistently in the kiln. Also, the glaze is uneven in spots. Still, a great bowl in a well-attested decorative scheme, and from the period.
