Derby produced examples of this glorious rococo-style vase with some variations on the decoration: examples are found with English flowers, naturalistic birds or, as here, splendid and fancy birds that exist more in the painter’s imagination than in reality. The white bocage of flowering plants that rises from the vase makes it a very attractive ornament for the mantle or between volumes on the bookshelf. There is another example of this vase with bocage and exotic bird decoration in the British Museum. The vase is seven and a half inches high. As might be expected, there are scattered repairs to some of the flowers and leaves, but nothing major.
