Two Chelsea Red Anchor Dessert Baskets C.1757. Utterly charming and fanciful in design, this pair uses three-dimensional effects to impress. The branches on the ends are fully sculptural and complement the molding of wicker basketwork on the oval dishes. They are ten and three-quarters by seven and a half inches. Severne Mackenna illustrates this form of dish as plate 28 in his “Red Anchor Wares.” That example, like these, is unmarked. Unfortunately, one dish has been broken across and repaired (quite well), and the other dish has repairs to the branches. Provenance, the Antique Porcelain Company.
