This great celluloid cape clasp or buckle combines the great Art Deco geometry with the soft last vestiges of the Art Nouveau style. The big square closures have geometric triangles and diamonds with cut off corners of each side of the clasp. There are bold black outlines and divisions on the face of the clasp softened by rhinestones and soft delicate flowers. The background is a golden brown with bold black geometric designs. The back of each side of the clasp has two shanks for sewing the clasp to fabric. There is a metal hook closure with some light evidence of rust that has been cleaned up. The rhinestones are all intact but a couple of them are darkened due to age.
This is a wonderful old buckle that would be a great replacement piece on vintage clothing. This would also be a nice piece to use as a focal point in textile art or on a new garment for a one of a kind accent.
