This unusual cape or cloak clasp is made of a clay-like material with an impressed motif of a lovely woman in profile and the profile is surrounded by entwined irises. The woman's headdress and the irises are embellished with red and green hand painted details. The clasp, when closed, measures 4 1/4 inches by 1 1/2 inches. The clasp is an interlocking brass latch. Each half of the clasp has three small thread holes for securing the clasp to the garment. The hook of the latch is marked with B and a TE superscript over the initials S.G.D.G. The other half of the clasp still has an intact paper label marked Made in France.
This is an unusual and old cape clasp that would make a lovely addition to a collection or would be a wonderful focal point for a garment or coat.
