This is a great card for a collector of fire fighting subjects or for a little boy! The card shows an orange glow in the night sky. People are standing at their windows in the tall buildings looking out in the direction of the fire and people on the street are running. In the foreground a horse drawn fire engine is racing down the street to fight the fire with three white horses drawing the water tanker. Two firemen in gear are riding on the back and the driver has his whip out to spur the horses on. The card is titled Engine going to a fire. Silver leaf embellishes the title the metal work on the fire engine and the harnesses of the horses.
Condition is good with a small vertical tear in the top with excellent approximation of the edges of the tear. The colors of the card are bright and exciting.
The back of the card indicates that it was printed in Germany. The card is part of the Fire Dep't Series P1400 and this is printed on the left side of the back. The card has a stamp and an Oxnard California postmark that bears no year. There is a message and address written in pencil.
The message reads: My dear little boy Tom and Reg met us at the Depot yesterday We had a good time take good care of your self a big kiss from Mamma.
