This bed cover is truly reminiscent of Hollywood’s decadent Silver Stage Era!
It’s such a unique and RARE bedspread coverlet, which is made out of a thick rex rabbit fur on top and orange satin taffeta on the sides and bottom. Additionally, the taffeta still has a wonderful sheen when it catches the light and also has a stylish ruching down the center on the underside.
I found this in my Grandmother’s trunk and later found a photo (mid-1960’s) of it on her bed, which was such a surprise because I had never seen it before. With some research this is what I was able to find:
The PELES POLO NORTE COMPANY (translation: North Pole Skin Company) was located in São Paulo, Brazil, and became well-known in the 1960's for making quilts and coats out of furs from rabbit and chinchilla. This research makes sense because my Grandmother lived in São Paulo between 1949 – 1959. So when she moved to the USA in 1959 she either brought it with her or it was given to her as a gift once she settled in the states during the early-1960’s.
The sizing measurements are meant for a Full size bed allowing the generous side skirt to hang over (the pictures were taken on a Queen size bed).
The condition is amazing! There are no moth eaten holes, stains, fading, or odors. I would say that 99% of the coverlet can be considered like new; however, there is one small flaw. There is a 3”(7.5cm) separation between two pelts (see pic) but it is reparable.
Plus, you automatically save an additional $45- via FREE shipping, as the coverlet is too thick to fit into a flat rate box.
You will absolutely love this RARE, unique, vintage vogue, classy, and avant-guard mid-century coverlet! Perfect for your décor, a perfect burlesque prop, or even an excellent stage prop for the movie screen! Truly Amazing :)
