A vintage ceramic teapot, floral motif, hand painted and marked Japan, is presented!
Circa 1920's-40's (see explanation below about the dating of the marking) this vintage ceramic teapot has an unusual almost square shape, giving it a classic Art Deco appearance. The vintage teapot measures 5 inches in width and 4 inches in height. It is just over 4 inches deep. There is an exquisite two-toned green glaze on the entire body of the vintage teapot with raised relief (see photos). Raised up from this background green glaze, both sides have a floral motif, raised in a very pronounced relief. One side, as can be seen from the photos, have two flowers in a pot with leaves in colors blue, yellow, green leaves and deep pink. The other side has a single flower deep pink color with yellow and blue and also leaves and smaller flowers. There is a rectangular handle in green along with a matching spout. Even the cover to this vintage ceramic teapot has the same floral motif, but in miniature and a small handle for lifting the cover off. There is also a round open area for the steam from your lovely tea to escape! SEE PHOTOS.
The bottom of the teapot is marked HAND PAINTED, JAPAN. There is also a large "H" inside a flower within this marking. This marking is attributed to the Hotta Yu Shoten & Co. which was in operation from 1920-1947. The logo of the large "H" within the flower is actually a depiction of a cherry blossom.
The entire teapot is in excellent condition. The bottom of the vintage teapot has an area of crazing, which of course does not affect the pot at all.
This teapot is a wonderful addition to any vintage teapot collection and is ready for use and/or display.
