A most unusual Vintage Celluloid Sweetheart pin is presented that is just perfect!
Circa 1930’s-40’s, this amazing Vintage Celluloid sweetheart brooch is ivory colored Celluloid. It is comprised of a 1 ½ long and 2 inch wide airplane with wonderful molded details. There are two five pointed red stars painted on each wing of this plane. There is also red painted detailing on the back of the plane. This vintage aircraft is joined via a 2 ½ long brass link chain to the other side where you find a white metal wing. There is a pin back on both the vintage airplane as well as the white metal wing (see photos). Dangling from the vintage brass link chain are individual ivory colored Celluloid letters measuring ½ inch tall, which spell out GENEVA.
The tradition of sweetheart jewelry, which were really mementos to loved ones from the war front, began during World War I and became even more popular during World War II. This type of wonderful and sentimental jewelry enabled servicemen to remain connected with loved ones back home and are now referred to as “sweetheart” jewelry. Soldiers gave jewelry to that special someone in their lives and even to their moms. It was a gesture of remembrance and love. Sometimes these pieces of sweetheart jewelry would signify the soldier’s general location or the name of the loved one (as perhaps is the case in this vintage celluloid sweetheart brooch.)
This most unusual vintage Celluloid sweetheart brooch is in perfect condition and both pins are perfect and work perfectly. This vintage keepsake is ready to be worn and cherished once again.
