Taos, New Mexico Artist Ben Turner Oil on Canvas Landscape Painting “Colorado Aspen”, Signed and Framed, 39 inches Wide and 29 inches Tall This is a wonderful Oil on Canvas Landscape Painting by Taos, New Mexico Artist Ben Turner titled “Colorado Aspen”. The painting depicts an autumn scene that includes a waterway surrounded by aspen trees with yellow and orange leaves and a background of snow covered mountains. The painting is framed, signed in the lower right and titled on the back of the stretcher board. The framed painting measures approximately 39 inches wide, 29 inches tall and 2-3/4 inches deep. The image area measures approximately 29-1/2 inches wide and 19-1/2 inches tall. Other than a few small scratches and dings on the frame, this Ben Turner oil painting is in very good condition.
Ben Turner was born in Gallup, NM, in 1912, a descendant of the famous British painter, Joseph Mallord William Turner (1775-1851). He studied at the University of New Mexico and the Art Institute of Chicago before returning to the Southwest. In the course of his career he had studios in Taos and Santa Fe, and in Colorado and Mexico. His work includes cottonwoods, aspens and adobe scenes, as well as still-life paintings of flowers. It is represented in important national collections, including the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., and the Museum of Fine Arts, Santa Fe. Turner died in Mexico in 1966.
