This wonderful Marc Chagall Etching is plate 47 from the book “Les Fables De Fontaine” Volume 1, and is titled “The Wolf, The Goat, and The Kid”. The print dates to 1952 and is plate signed. The framed print measures approximately 22-3/4 inches tall, 20-1/2 inches wide, and 1-3/4 inches deep. The mat opening measures approximately 11 inches wide and 13 inches tall. Other than some scratches on the Plexiglas and some chips to the frame, this framed Marc Chagall etching is in excellent vintage condition.
The etchings for La Fontaine’s “Fables” were commissioned by the art dealer Ambroise Vollard. Chagall worked on the etching plates between 1928 and 1931 and they were issued in 1952 in and edition of 200.
Marc Chagall (1887-1985) was a Russian-French artist. He was an early modernist and worked in many different styles and mediums including fine art prints, painting, ceramics, stained glass, and book illustrations.
