A charming hinged stamp box probably of Scottish origin with banded agate going one direction on the top and another direction on the bottom. It is set in a gold-color metal. The agate is very interesting with bands of color ranging from nearly clear to red, white, and a reddish-brown. It has a note inside that gives its origin as being from the mid-Victorian period around 1870. It measures 1” by 1” wide and is 1/2” deep when closed. The agate is not chipped or cracked. It is in very good antique condition and closes but does not “snap” closed.
