Signed Trifari brooch with a heart, shaft of wheat and raised image of a home and garden was presented to high school girls who competed in a national scholarships program in 1955-1977. The award was to bring attention to the “forgotten career of homemaking” as part of a promotion by the General Mills Company and their Betty Crocker Division. It has the words “Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow” etched on the back along with the Crown Trifari logo. Measures 2 3/8” wide and 1 1/4” high. It is made of gold tone metal and is in very good vintage condition although the pin has a slight bend, it works well and has a safety clasp.
About the award...The Betty Crocker All-American Homemaker of Tomorrow scholarship program required senior high school girls to take a written test on homemaking attitudes and knowledge. The girl who received the highest score in her school received the Trifari homemaker pin and was then entered into a state scholarship competition. There would eventually be only one national winner who would receive a $3,500 college scholarship and a gold and diamond Betty Crocker All American Homemaker of Tomorrow pin. The above information was taken from the Vintage Kids Clubs Online Museum.
