The most vivid color of purples, blues, greens are used in this brief expressionistic fauvist style painting by Utah born artist Louise Richards Farnsworth (1878-1969). The fauvist style flourished in Paris in the early 1900s around the time Farnsworth was admitted into the Paris Salon. Prior to that she studied at the Art Student’s League in New York. Her work was best known along the East coast of the U.S. and in Paris but not in her home state of Utah until much later in her career. This painting was in storage for over 30 years and was finally released for sale at a Salt Lake City art gallery in 1983. It is oil on board and measures 10 3/4” wide and 8” high and 15” wide and 11 2/4” high with the frame. It is in very good to excellent condition.
