A sterling ball and chain design forms the ideal frame for a distinctly carved black labradorite tribal face. The brooch is signed F. Torres and 925 (sterling). It was made in the mid 1930s in Taxco, Mexico. Silversmith F. Torres and this hallmark are shown on page 202 of Bille Hougart's highly respected source book, The Little Book of Mexican Silver Trade and Hallmarks (2006 edition). It measures 2 1/8” wide and 2 1/2” high. It is in very good condition except that the pin on the back is slightly bent and needs to be straightened although it still clasps securely.
