This platter is a creamy ivory color in the Century shape by Homer Laughlin China Company. According to The Collector's Encyclopedia of Fiesta, Ninth Edition, Ivory Century was a precursor to Riviera. The book also notes some speculation about whether or not ivory was produced as a color of Riviera. Riviera is the same shape but with color - blue, yellow, orange or green; the line was produced beginning in the late 1930s (p.86). This platter is rectangular with rounded corners and two tab handles.
DIMENSIONS: The diameter of the platter from handle to handle is 15 5/8 inches. The diameter of the shorter side of the platter is 11 2/3 inches.
CONDITION: The platter is in very good condition with two nicks that do not appear to have occurred recently. There is one nick on each handle. One measures approximately 1/8 by 1/4 inch, and the other measures about 1/4 by 1/4 inch. One side rim has some glaze pits or pops and uneven glazing. There is some utensil or use wear as well.
What a lovely piece for the Ivory Century collector or as an addition to a Riviera collection!
