For sale is a rare grouping of personalized sketches by H.C Westermann on inside covers of art brochures to owners of a Glass shop in Danbury CT. whom he struck up a friendship dating back from 1974 thru 1978. One brochure consists of individual glossy photos of his works stamped on the reverse with description. Another brochure with loose pages due to age. A personalized envelope which he mailed a colored leaflet from an exposition in Los Angeles. The image with the man kicking glass has an expletive so the first letter "F" has been photo shopped to look like a smudge and hide the letter per Rubylane rules. There is no damage. Westermann's sketches rarely surface for sale and have realized prices from $3000.00 to $15,000.00 !
H. C. Westermann (Horace Clifford "Cliff" Westermann) (December 11, 1922 – November 3, 1981) was a highly influential and important American sculptor and printmaker whose art constituted a scathing commentary on militarism and materialism. His sculptures frequently incorporated traditional carpentry and marquetry techniques. From the late 1950s until his death in 1981, Westermann worked with a number of materials and formal devices to address a range of personal, literary, artistic, and pop-cultural references. The artist’s sculptural oeuvre is distinguished by its intricate craftsmanship, in which wood, metal, glass, and other materials are laboriously hand-tooled, and by its ability to convey an offbeat, often humorous, individualistic sensibility.
Westermann’s sculptures reveal not only the influence of craft traditions, but also of varied art historical precedents.
