Fine quality Chinese export camphor wood lap desk Circa 1820. Made for sea Captains and military officers in the field. Brass bound round the outer edge with brass carrying handles. Tambour top opens when you open the front drawer to reveal storage in the top, this piece then lifts up to reveal a fitted pigeon hole interior. Writing slope which is strung with ebony and unused brass cartouche opens to a later green baize surface, upper section of the writing surface folds back to a storage and 3 secret drawers behind a panel. Finished with pen tray and compartments. Expected surface marks, minor warping to brass work, some seperation to dovetailing but structurally sound. Slight shrinkage and warping to top lid.
