An exceptionally fine 900 Austrian Silver Humidor/Cigar Case by the Master Viennese Silversmith/Jeweller, George Adam Scheid* (1837-1921)

Crafted in Solid (900/1000) Silver and fully marked: G.A.S , Diana Head, 900; gilded interior; set on the 2 clasps with what look to be sapphires but haven't been tested as such. The condition is particularly good with minimal signs of usage

Measures 13.5 cm by 9cm by 3.5 cm; weighs 400 gm

Such objects very rarely come up at auction - a smaller example with the same design was sold in 2012 for US$2,200 (see last photo)

* GEORG SCHEID COMPLETED AN APPRENTICESHIP UNTIL 1853 AND THEN WORKED FIRST IN PFORZHEIM AND STUTTGART. IN 1858 HE WENT TO VIENNA AND WORKED IN THE WORKSHOP OF HIS LATER FATHER-IN-LAW, THE SILVERWARE PRODUCER AND JEWELER MICHAEL MARKOWITSCH. TOGETHER THEY FOUNDED MARKOWITSCH & SCHEID IN 1862. IN 1884, HE FOUNDED A JEWELLRY FACTORY UNDER HIS OWN NAME, RETIRING IN 1911
