Large Victorian Mourning Hair Wreath in shadowbox frame.
Frame measures approximately 16 by 16 inches and wreath itself is approx. 10 1/2 by 10 1/2 inches
It has a small slip of paper that says "Hair wreath of the J.G. Stuber family's hair made in the year 1872
This is lovely fine work, with intricate and delicate flowers and leaves made of hair woven, weaved and wrapped around very fine wire, there are small embellishments of tiny beads, mostly in the centers of the flowers. If you look closely you will notices the different colors of hair, some different shades of brown and dark blonde as well.
The wreath is in fantastic condition, tightly woven. The frame has a few cosmetic issues, scuffs and a spot or two where some small chunks are missing, but it is overall a stunning piece of artwork.
The slip of paper inside was loose and split so the frame was opened up and the paper taped back together and sealed back down with glue dots. We also cleaned the glass. This paper repair and cleaning was the only thing done, no other modifications.
This was obtained at a private estate sale in Kansas.
