This listing is for a gorgeous antique Griffin, Smith & Hill (GSH) American Etruscan Majolica CAKE STAND, c. 1878-1889. The top area of this lovely cake stand has beautiful coloration featuring embossed green maple leaves and brown branches on a white background. The pedestal base is brown with a tree-trunk appearance and is covered with branches with green leaves. The exterior of the top area and inside the pedestal base is decorated with a mottled dark green color under the glaze. Cake stand is marked with the early GRIFFIN, SMITH & HILL Incised trademark stamp which was used prior to 1879 and does not have the encircling ETRUSCAN MAJOLICA phrase. This stamp was always placed inside the pedestal on footed pieces. This pattern is illustrated on plates on page 81 of the book "MAJOLICA POTTERY" by MARIANN KATZ-MARKS and on page 98 of the book "MAJOLICA" by MIKE SCHNEIDER.
Dimensions: 9 1/2" in diameter and stands 5 3/8" high. Weighs 2 pounds.
Condition: This nice cake stand is in excellent Estate condition with crisp color and glaze and no noted flaws or repairs.
