This unusual late 19th Century French bronze inkstand or inkwell is decorated with cherubs playing musical instruments with a garland draped torch and bow with quiver of arrows. The hinge is tight and the lid opens and closes correctly. The top of the lid has an embossed leaf and berry design and the finial is shaped as an unopened flower bud. The urn inkwell is bolted onto the base and the bottom has a raised foot ring.
Dimensions: 4 3/4" high with the base being 6 1/4" in diameter. Weighs almost 2 pounds.
Condition: The inkwell has nice original patina and is in excellent Estate condition with no noted damage although the interior glass or ceramic inkwell insert is missing. These inserts are easily replaced as they were made in standard sizes. There are a couple of minor no-harm dark spots on the lower ring around the outside edge and one on the shoulder of the inkwell.
