This listing is for a very unusual burl wood rectangular box with inlaid decoration that includes a large Pietra Dura panel on the top with "Karlsbad" written in the center, c. 1890. The outside border on the top of the box features an inlaid band of contrasting woods with a trompe l'oeil (three dimensional) design. The large Pietra Dura panel on the top features multi stones including malachite inlaid in a geometrical design with "Karlsbad" written in the center medallion. There is a mother-of-pearl square key hole cover. The box has a locking mechanism intact and tight hinges with the box opening and closing correctly (no key). The interior of the box has a padded navy velvet covering on the bottom.
Dimensions: 3 1/8" high, 12 1/4" long and 4 1/8" wide. Weighs 1.5 pounds.
Condition: This nice box is in excellent Estate condition with no noted flaws and reflecting only minimal signs of normal wear. The Pietra Dura panel and trompe l'oeil inlaid wood border are also in excellent condition and free of any flaws.
