This FABULOUS antique American Baltimore area Sterling Silver hand-chased sauce/gravy boat with under tray a has beautiful repousse floral design. The design features roses with foliage in high relief that encompasses the entire body except for the center of the tray where the sauce boat sits. Both pieces have an unusual and elaborate deeply engraved flower and scroll border. The silver has great original patina and exquisite details. Marked "Hand Chased, Sterling", this silver set was made by one of the 19th Century Baltimore area silversmiths. The design reflects greater detail and the set is larger and heavier than the Repousse pieces carrying the Stieff and Kirk names that are more commonly found today.
Dimensions: Sauce boat measures 6" high, 9" long and 4 1/4" wide. Weighs 480 grams. Oval tray measures 1" high at ends, 10" long and 6" wide. Weighs 330 grams. Combined weight is 810 grams or 26.01 oz. T.
Condition: The silver has great original patina, exquisite details and is in excellent Estate condition with no damage or noted flaws. The silver in the bottom of the sauce boat and flat center of the tray do reflect expected signs of normal wear as these pieces are well over 100 years old (see photos).
