19th C. Stevens & Williams cranberry threaded clear glass dresser/trinket box with Sterling Silver lid. The silver top has an embossed floral and scroll design in high relief with unused center cartouche for monogram. The silver lid has English hallmarks for Birmingham, Sterling with date letter for 1900 and unidentified maker's stamp "L&S".
Dimensions: 1 1/2" high and 1 3/4" in diameter.
Condition: Box is in excellent Estate condition with no chips, cracks or repairs although there are a couple of tiny nicks in the threading and some very minor surface wear to the base.
The technique of applying a thin layer of contrasting glass as decoration on an item was created by Frederick Carder (of Steuben glass fame) while he worked at Stevens & Williams in England prior to coming to the US.
