This listing is for a 19th Century burl wood fitted sewing box with elaborate heavy decorative brass banding and medallion around key hole and on top of box. In center top is an embossed bronze Egyptian Pharaoh bust standing in high relief. The decorative brass decoration is mounted with round brass studs. The interior of the box has a lift-out fitted drawer with compartments for assorted sewing implements. Included is a pair of scissors and a small thin pocket knife (?) in top compartment. The interior of the box appears to be original with green satin lining inside top of lid and on top of five compartments. The interior of the box not covered with satin is covered with paper. Each of the sections has a gilt band around the top edge. The hinges of the box and the locking mechanisms are in good shape with the box opening and closing correctly. Comes with original key.
