This lovely Sterling Silver tureen or covered serving dish is called an ECUELLE in France. The silver is decorated with a swirled ribbed pattern on both the lid and base with a flat heavily embossed wide handle on each side. The cover is further decorated with a large floral and leaf design as the finial handle. There is a fancy 3-letter monogram "M P F" engraved on center front with "January 30th 1911" engraved below. Both the dish and lid are stamped with illegible silversmith's stamp and we found the French Minerva .925 hallmark stamp on the lip of the lid. These hallmarks are so extremely small they are often hard to find and we were unable to find the stamp that should be on the base, however, we guarantee it to be of Sterling Silver quality and to be a perfect match with the cover. These pieces are very desirable and are considered by many to be in the rare category.
Dimensions: 3 1/2" high (to top of finial as shown), 2 1/4" high (to top of dish), 6 3/8" wide (handle to handle) with a 4 3/4" top diameter. Weighs 445 grams.
Condition: Silver is in overall excellent Estate condition for age however it does reflect faint signs of normal handling - nothing that detracts from the beauty of this hard-to-find silver tureen.
