This listing is for a lovely Gorham Sterling Silver inkstand with a single cut glass inkwell with a Sterling Silver lid. The glass inkwell has a beveled square cut design on the entire body with an attached Sterling Silver lid with beaded decoration. The hinge is tight and the top of the lid has a slight dome shape with round ball finial and the underside of the lid is gilded. The silver inkstand has a pierced gallery with beaded rim that encircles the back of the sand and it has a Gadroon design around the front of the recessed pen slot. There is a pierced/reticulated band that holds the inkwell in place. The inkstand sits of three nicely decorated wide feet and is marked with the Gorham trademark stamp used from 1875-1900 and "Sterling, 140" with date code for 1894.
Dimensions: Inkstand measures 3/4" high (at front) and 1 3/4" high (at back), 9 3/8" long (at front) and 2 1/4" wide (at back) and 4 1/4" deep. The inkwell measures 2 3/4" high (to top of finial), 1 5/8" high (to top of glass) and 1 7/8" square (at base). Silver weight of inkstand only is 240 grams. Weight of inkwell (including silver top) is 145 grams. Combined weight (as shown) is 385 grams.
Condition: The silver body of the inkstand and the silver lid are both in very good to excellent Estate condition with no noted flaws and reflecting only minor signs of wear. The glass of the inkwell appears to be in excellent condition and we noted no damage to the glass although there is some minor cloudiness on the bottom of the glass that can't be seen when the inkwell in fitted onto the stand and there is also some minor no-harm rubbing on the bottom surface of the glass.
