Nice antique Russian icon with hand chased silver Riza (metal covering) mounted on mahogany wood backing. The Riza covers the entire face of the wooden board with the faces and hands of Mary and baby Jesus enameled on the board. There is a panel across the bottom of the silver cover below the figures that contains some illegible writing. The silver is marked with Russian stamp "84" which indicates 875/1000 parts pure silver or .875. The "84" standard was first introduced in Russia in 1798 and was the most commonly seen silver standard used throughout the 19th and early 20th Century.
Measures: 4 1/2" high, 3 3/4" wide and 1/2" deep.
Condition: This nice icon is in excellent Estate condition reflecting minor dents and dings from normal handling and age as expected. Silver has normal aged patina.
