This miniature French vase features a portrait of a man wearing Period clothing posed against a garden wall with landscape background in Limoges enamel on bronze. The unusual background is made of engine-turned guilloche enamel in an alternating horizontal and vertical pattern. Vase is signed by unidentified artist at lower right (facing) of portrait.
Dimensions: 4 1/2" high with a maximum width of 1 3/4" (at shoulder), 1 1/8" in diameter at top and 1 1/4" in diameter at base. Weighs 3.4 ounces.
Condition: Vase is in excellent Estate condition with no major flaws or repairs, reflecting only minimal signs of normal wear. There are a couple of spots at the bottom edge just above the foot ring where the silver background faintly shows underneath the enamel painted decoration on top. These areas are under the glaze and as they occurred during production, they are not technically flaws but are called for accuracy. There is one tiny fracture in the internal silver background on the back of the vase that is under the glaze and can barely be felt on the outside.
