This unusual Japanese KYOTO Satsuma porcelain enameled and gilt decorated lidded box is a museum quality example from the MEIJI Period (1868-1912). Box is hand painted with polychrome enamels with GOSU BLUE decoration. Signed with unidentified signature in Japanese script on base. Satsuma items with GOSU BLUE decoration were produced in a very limited quantity in Kyoto, Japan in the mid-19th Century and are now one of the most sought after types of the Satsuma wares.
Dimensions: 1 1/4" high and 3 3/8" square.
Condition: Box is in excellent Estate condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. The enameling and gilding are also in excellent condition although there is minor crazing throughout as is often found on Satsuma pottery.
