This listing is for a beautiful 19th Century 14 K yellow Gold ladies twisted rope muff chain with lovely Opal and Garnet decorated slide, c. 1890-1900. Chain has a swivel lock at bottom for attaching a gold ladies pocket watch or muff. Muff chains were worn about the neck so that a proper Victorian lady could attach her muff to the bottom latch so as not to have to carry or wear it all the time. Another use was to attach a fancy gold ladies pocket watch to the chain. Today these lovely chains are worn doubled or tripled and make wonderful necklaces. Slide is also 14 K and is decorated with a large oval opal in the center surrounded by 12 small garnets. Although we did not find the Karat stamp, both the slide and chain test to be 14 K.
Dimensions: 14 K chain measures 48" long. Slide is also 14 K and is decorated with a large oval centered opal measuring 3/8" wide and 1/2" long, surrounded by 12 small garnets. Weighs 23 grams.
Condition: Both the chain and slide are in excellent Estate condition with no noted flaws.
