This wonderful French Limoges enamel vase features a hand painted portrait of a man in Period clothing wearing a metallic green jacket and burgundy pants and playing a mandolin. Posed in a garden setting with landscape and castle in background. The vase has beautiful coloration with very fine details and is signed by the artist at bottom right of portrait. The vase was made in two pieces with the pedestal base made separately. The base is cobalt blue with gilt FLEUR-DE-LES decoration and has a garland of flowers surrounding the bottom edge.
Dimensions: 7 3/8" high, 2 1/8" in diameter at the top and 2 1/4" in diameter at base. Weighs 5.8 ounces.
Condition: Vase is in great condition, although there is some minor pitting on the interior and some very minor no-harm nicks on the upper edge with one faint flaw just below the upper rim. None of these minor flaws detract from the beauty of this stunning vase.
Most Limoges enamel on bronze (or copper) vases are in the miniature size with this vase being one of the largest I have ever seen. It is a very impressive example of French enamel workmanship.
