This listing is for an unusual antique English Majolica EGG BASKET complete with all (6) six original egg cups, c. 1875. This colorful egg basket is formed in the shape of a log with bark sides decorated with green English Ivy with the top of the log painted a rich cobalt blue. The handle is shaped as a branch. The individual egg cups are pale yellow with contrasting lavender-pink interior and each cup has a pedestal base. Although unmarked, this piece was undoubtedly made by one of the excellent factories producing high quality majolica in England from the middle to the end of the 19th Century.
Dimensions: Basket measures approximately 7 1/4" high (at handle) and 3" high to flat top surface of basket, 7 1/8" long and 5 1/4" wide. Weighs 2.8 pounds.
Condition: Basket is in excellent Estate condition with no noted flaws or repairs. Three of the egg cups are in excellent condition with three having minor condition flaws. One has a faint hairline at the top edge, another has a small factory flaw (chip under glaze) on pedestal base and a spot on inside edge missing color and glaze and the third cup has a faint rough spot on upper edge (possible factory flaw). Overall these condition problems are very minor on such a hard-to-find set.
