A wonderful & very unusual, antique sentimental brooch, for discerning collectors.
Dating from the Georgian/early Victorian period.
Containing plaited human hair, this brooch celebrates love and happiness..... rather than the traditional mourning pieces found from this period. A true early sweetheart brooch!!
Very rare to find an antique hair brooch that was clearly a love token.
Despite its small size, the brooch is heavy as it has a solid silver case (tested).
The front has a border of paste stones, mainly white, with green stones at the quarter points. The hair locket compartment sits within the centre and is then mounted with a floral paste stone top. Most unusual in design!!
The back of the brooch has a layer of gold on top of the silver and shows the raised bevelled glass protecting the hair display.
Tube hinge, extended pin and 'c'catch to fasten.
Measurements: 3cm by 2.5cm.
In good antique condition for great age; there are 3 missing stones and the stones and glass all have surface wear commensurate with age.
All photographs should be supersized for full, clear detail of item on offer and its condition. They are a major part of the description.
Box shown is for display ONLY and is NOT included in the sale.
Will enhance any collection of Georgian/Victorian jewellery....a unique example.
