A highly collectable early 1920's galaith bookmark with sterling silver mount & dangling pig charm.
The mount is stamped STERLING SILVER and the pig STER SIL.
The body of the bookmark is made from galaith (erinoid), a synthetic plastic made by the interaction of casein and formaldehyde. Like bakelite, a very collectable vintage material. Here it is an attractive mix of pink and beige, giving a marble like look.
The bookmark measures 4" from top of silver mount to base. Attached to this is a small amount of silver chain where the pig charm is attached. The charm is 2cm by 1.3cm. Bookmark is 0.75" wide (at widest point).
In good vintage condition; there is a small chip to lower left edge on both parts of bookmark; pig has a small remaining part of a broken off fixed ring to top of his back...images show all this clearly.
