A beautiful and unusual late Victorian heart shaped agate locket on rolled gold agate bead collar chain necklace.
I have seen many oval agate lockets from the period but never a heart shaped one.
The locket case is chunky with natural carnelian agate panels front and back and a gilt metal frame. Opens to reveal two compartments where photographs may be placed; no frames or glass. Closes securely.
Suspended from an unmarked rolled gold chain with 10 natural carnelian agate beads, interspersed with attractive rolled gold linkage. Fastens with a spring ring fastener.
Measurements: locket is 25mm by 24mm (excluding jump ring) and has a depth of 8mm.
The chain length is 15.75" hence the collar fitting.
A highly unusual piece in good antique condition; a few nibbles to bevelled edge borders of agate on both sides; some natural pitting, spotting, blemishes to carnelian agate beads. All commensurate with age and material.
