A gorgeous, very large, Victorian pinchbeck/gilt metal locket, circa 1880.
Measuring 2.5" by 1.5" (including bail) with a depth of 0.5"....weighs 36.66gms....this is certainly a statement piece in wear!!
The locket has a chunky oval case, with an applique textured metal flower and single set clear paste stone. A large bail to top can accommodate a thick chain or oversized bolt ring; I assume this piece would have been worn originally on a gilded collar to flatter the high necked outfits of the day.
The interior houses two original period photographs; a young woman to the left and an elderly lady to the right who is wearing full mourning attire. Neither side has a glass cover and only the right side is framed.
Lockets closes with a soft click.
In good antique condition; some wear to pinchbeck/gilt metal commensurate with age & use; there is a small uneven patch to right side of flower, possible antique gilt surface repair? Noted for accuracy.
Please view all the photographs for clear detail of the item and its condition.
Will look truly fabulous in wear!! We just don't make them like this these days!!
