A genuine, rare original pair of Victorian vulcanite mourning bangles, designed to be worn together on the upper and lower arm.
The design to both is identical, featuring a large rose head in stunning relief, with stem and multi leaves beneath; the wonderful quality of Victorian mourning jewellery at this time was the authentic look of hand carving, whilst the pieces were actually moulded.
The vulcanite has retained an excellent colour on both pieces, being black in colour. When antique vulcanite was overly exposed to light it could fade to a light khaki colour (I have seen many such examples!); these have clearly been well stored and looked after.
Measurements: both bangles have a front depth of 1.75"; the largest has an unstretched internal circumference of 8.5", the smaller has an unstretched inner circumference of 7.25"...clearly the bangles are adjustable beyond these measurements if required & according to taste.
In good antique condition; some minor wear/scuffs to vulcanite commensurate with age.
Whilst it was popular for mourners to wear two bangles on their arm, most have been separated over the years and it is rare to find a true pair that have stayed together like these.
For the casual observer, please note: these bangles originated from the same maker, are of exact same design and were originally made to be part of a matching, coordinated set of pieces (to be worn together on same arm)...therefore complying with Ruby Lane Jewelry Lane policies.
