A wonderful, antique enamelled, sterling silver gilt mounted, double florin coin pendant.
The mount is classically Victorian with a cogged border and outer beading, with gilded finish. It is hallmarked Sterling, Birmingham Assayed,1887....the year of the Queen's Golden Jubilee.
The double florin is beautifully enamelled in vivid colours, with some hand finished detail. The back of the coin has the Victoria 'Bun Head'.
This piece has a tube hinge from past use as a brooch; the pin and 'c' catch are no longer present but there is a pendant loop to the top. Of course the brooch fittings could be easily replaced if desired.
Measurements: 1.75" in diameter.
In good antique condition; minimal amount of enamel damage to the left of the '7' in 1887; some wear to outer beading, commensurate with age.
A very interesting piece; I believe double florins were only produced between 1887 and 1890; making them one of the shortest lived British coin denominations ever.
