A rare Victorian silver back & front locket, suspended from a later sterling silver chain.
The locket is beautifully detailed, with chased detail to both sides and a large blue enamelled star to the front. The back has a vacant shield shaped cartouche.
The silver panels have been tested; the main frame is base metal as is the jump ring.
Inside the locket are some wedding photos of 2 ladies (vintage but not as old as the locket). One side has a frame, neither side has glass.
Secure snap closure on locket.
The locket is suspended from a good quality, later 20" sterling silver chain, marked STERLING to the bolt ring fastener.
Measurements: locket is 30mm by 26mm (case only, not including top ring or jump ring) or 40mm by 26mm (including jump ring).
Total weight: 21.06gms.
In good antique condition; some loss to navy blue enamel around star; not overly noticeable.
A fabulous piece in wear!!
During the era, many gold back & front lockets were made but silver versions were far rarer..this is only the second I have seen in 20+ years collecting...and what a fine example it is!!!
