A late Victorian hand carved shell cameo pendant, c1880.
Large in size, the cameo is mounted in a gilt metal frame with a silver metal back (that has previously been gilded, only traces of which remain).
The pendant frame has an unusual fleur-de-lys and double crescent bail with jump ring to top.
I am unaware of the history of this piece; the bail looks like an antique later addition; it feels wobbly but still able to hold pendant well. It may need further soldering at some point for real security in wear.
Please see close up photos of fittings (last two images show front and back) to see how this has been done.
Measurements: 2 3/8" by 1 4/8" (including bail & jump ring).
A very attractive antique pendant overall, with a classic 19th century shell cameo and an interesting bail feature!!
