A superb, HUGE, late 19th century shell cameo brooch.
Mounted in a tested 9ct gold frame (unmarked).
The cameo is extremely well carved to depict a lady in a kneeling position, with her hands crossed at the breast.
The gold frame has an attractive roped outer border, typical of the period.
Tube hinge pin and 'c' catch (fittings are not gold), along with a 2.5" safety chain.
Measurements: 2.5" by 2".
In good antique condition; there is a tiny loss to outer edge of cameo (at 2 o'clock) where a small section of the frame is also missing; three very fine stress lines can be seen from back, noted for accuracy; there is a testing blemish to the base of the gold frame (see photos).
This is a stunning brooch, by anyone's standard. Period cameo collectors will not be disappointed.
