A very rare example of that most collectable of Victorian brooches, the name brooch.
Sterling silver with a Chester hallmark for the year 1885, with makers stamp AS.
There is also a registration number stamp 17178 which indicates the years 1884-85.
Unusually, this example features a double name, indicating it was most likely a commission piece..... LOUISA ELIZA.
It is beautifully made, with the names in raised blocked lettering, raised, cut out leaves to the top, along with a traditional horseshoe for luck and beaded trim to base.
The tube hinge, pin and 'c' catch to the back are in working order.
Measurements: 42mm by 20mm.
In good antique condition; left uncleaned/unpolished as preferred by many buyers of antique jewellery.
Please view all the photographs to appreciate.
Double name brooches from the era rarely come along; coupled with its prized Chester hallmark (the Assay office closed in 1962), this beautiful brooch ticks all the boxes for a wonderful antique investment piece.
