Museum-quality antique shell cameo of a beautiful Bacchante in 18k gold chiseled brooch mount, mid-19th century.
The Bacchante, follower of the wine God, Bacchus or Dionysus, wears vine leaves in her hair, a ram's head at the shoulder and carries a Thyrsus.
The layers of the shell have been expertly carved to bring a remarkable three-dimensional quality to this very wearable work of art… the soft, neutral shades work with anything from jeans and t-shirt in the daytime to elegant black formal-wear in the evening.
Hallmarked and tested as 18k gold, this breathtaking, large cameo brooch is in very good condition with faint stress-marks to the shell.
Measures 58 x 47 mms and weighs 20.1 grams.
