Old pre World War 1 set of sign Austria china dessert set. It is done in the old fashioned way when you had either a set of 12 or a set of 6. This is a set of 6 cake or pie or whatever plates and the master Cake Plate. Remember that sets or 8 did not come in until the late 1960's.
The large plate measures 8 1/2" across and the small plates are 6" across. the master plate has the decoration of 2 maidens which also matches 3 of the smaller plates. The other 3 are in a different pose and there are 4 maidens instead of only 2. All are signed Kaufmann and I can only assume they are transfer ware painted. This could have been done at the factory or at home but if at home it would seem to me that the border was done at the factory and the inside left plain to be done later. Since this was the era of ladies doing china painting for their pleasure at home that seems plausible. However they could all have been done at the factory and Kaufmann was just the factory artist.
Theere are the normal wear spots here and there on the china but all in all they are in great condition.
