This is a pair of old wool stockings or stocking covers. They are knitted wool and have the elastic band under the foot to hold them into the shoe. These are the wool over stockings worn by folks seen in many pictures from the 1920' and earlier era. They would have been worn by both women and men and would have been used to protect the actual stockings you would have been wearing as well as to help keep you warm. Coming myself from Minnesota, I know how necessary that would have been during the winter months up there. There seems to be a mend on each sock at the back of the leg where the heel would have been. They have been filled in with other knitted wool. Other than that they are in wonderful shape especially when you consider their age. They are 24" long and about 4" wide when laid out flat. Ask any questions you wish.
