It was ... guess who! ... our young lady, my dear! our lady herself, sitting upright between the wicker bags,
her cheek getting so pink of the cold mountain air after the storm.
"The baby was sick, so that Aunt Norade could not come . She should keep the children". The beautiful Stephanette was telling me that,
coming down from her mule , she told also that she arrived late because she has lost a way ;
but to see her so well dressed, with her floral ribbon, her shining skirt, and her lace, she seemed rather
to have lingered over some dance than to have sought her way into the bushes.
Alphonse Daudet "the letter from my water mill "
